Lomba da Maia

Lomba da Maia, located in Sao Miguel, is a beautiful area on North coast.

If you are physically fit, there is a beautiful hike in the area, it is callled Praia da Viola (PR27SMI) and ends in Maia. Praia da Viola is a lovely beach. On the way there, you can see fantastic views towards Porto Formosa and Ponta Cintrao.  You can find information about this trail and other Azores trails at www.trails-azores.com. Take note of the cautions listed when hiking in the Azores as conditions can change frequently. Some of the hikes cross terrain that can be affected by heavy rains.

The pictures below are from a Miradour (viewpoint) in Lomba da Maia with the beach of Praia da Viola visible along the coast. It is one of the best beaches in the Azores. 

For your information, Lomda da Maia is considered a part of the parish of Ribeira Grande
