This cottage is located in Fajã, Faial in the rural village of Praia Norte or North Beach. The Fajã, region is a haven of tranquility of wandering, vineyards, dramatic cliffs, unique vegetation, lush forests and the well-known surfing beach of Praia da Fajã. The cottage is named after the salt cedar trees, (Tamarix, Africana), that line its courtyard.

This cozy little cottage is only a few walking paces from the sea with fantastic Ocean views.

Os Salgueiros sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms. It is ideally suited for a family with two children or two couples this cottage contains an open-plan living / dinning room. There is a climate controlled air conditioner and heater for the comfort of the guests. The galley kitchen contains all the necessary equipment for cooking. A modern tumble washing machine and soaps are provided in the house for an efficient self-catering holiday. The bathroom has a separate hot shower and sink. Supplied is also all the linen, towels, beach towels and beach blankets for picnics or BBQ on the beach. For outdoor living, there is an outdoor hot shower that is convenient after a swim in the Ocean. And for those long summer evenings, there is a courtyard that is perfect for entertaining with lighting, sink BBQ and patio furniture. There is also a large roof top patio that is ideal for sunbathing or enjoying the 360 degree views of the hilltop, meadowland, cliffs, beach and the Ocean. Take in the aromatic scents while feeling one’s stress disappear into the therapeutic ocean air. Start the day with immersing one’s self in the fresh Azorean ocean air, while taking in the local activities of the traditional past; fishermen fishing off the coastline; farmers tending to their livestock, vineyards and crops.

Spend the afternoon either enjoying the views from Cabececao Gordo, the highest peak on Faial Island or venturing to the nearby Capelinhos Interpretation Centre. End the day with a glass of wine while watching the magnificent sunsets from the courtyard; hear the cries of the Cory's shearwater seabirds while lying in the hammocks that swing from the trees Evenings at Os Salgueiros always ends with the sounds of the ocean waves in the distance.

The draw to the neighborhood is the yearly beach festivals. Like the Festival of St. John. Held on the last weekend of June. Events include live bands on a stage, bonfires, folklore /modern dancing; food & beverage tents. The Festival of St. Martin. This religious festival is held every November 11th in the historical region of Fajã, Nossa Senhora de Penha

Also this neighborhood has a public BBQ on the beach, a small port, restaurant; all are excellent vantage points for watching the sunsets.

Other points of interest are the, Ribeira de Adao, Adams' river, and a small port where local fishing is active all year-round. Behind the cottage is a Historical rich area where the hermitage of Nossa Senhora de Penha is located.

Fajã s major attraction besides it’s beach, is the popular Rocha da Fajã trail . Ideal for eco-tourism. This trail can be entered easily from the cottage and takes 2.5 hours through meadowland. Along this trail one encounters forests of Australian cheesewood, (Pittosporum Undulatum), Faya trees,(Myrica Faia), Japanese cedar, (Cryptomeira japonica) and tall elms, (Umus sp). This region is rich in native species of elm, pau branco, (Picconia azorica), and a tall growing heather, (Erica Azorica).

Ideal for romantic getaways, this cottage is superb for a couple seeking privacy in an isolated location.

For surfers and spectators, Praia da Fajã is an excellent surf destination and during the off season October - May, where Storm watching is a draw to this village. For guests exploring volcanologist sciences, A 5 minute drive from the cottage is the Capelinhos volcano and Interpretation Centre;

For cyclists or walkers, 15 minute drive takes you to the Caldeira Crater; Pasture golf can be enjoyed at Ribera Funda, 10 minute drive from the cottage. And for discovering the City of Horta, takes only a 25 minute scenic drive through quaint towns and interesting villages.
