Flights to the Azores

by John
(US)

What is the best way to buy tickets to the Azores? Do you go straight to the airline web sites, a travel agency or a travel web site like Travelocity?

Thanks.

Flights to the Azores

Hi John
Great question. I always use the same travel agent that my dad has used for years and years.

Flights to the Azores from Canada are a charter flight, which is different from a regularly scheduled flight in some ways. So I've always been more comfortable using a knowledgeable travel agent.

That said, I have looked on the travel websites and the Sata International website to compare prices. I've noticed that the travel sites are not competitive to what I can get through an agent that is familiar with Sata's charters. Most of the times I have tried, I end up getting a flight that requires flying to Lisbon, and then back to the Azores. And it is usually 3-4 times more than a direct flight.

Things could be different in the United States, and maybe I'll learn otherwise in the future. But at the very least, try a travel agent first. Ideally one who frequently deals with Sata. I don't know where you are from, but Sata flies from Boston and Oakland. There are significant Azorean populations in those cities and there are several travel agencies that would be catering to Azores vacations.

Hope that's not too long winded! Good luck planning your trip

Regards
Rob
